I am a fan of all things Magical and Mythical. In my high school I was in the "Art Majors" program. The core focus was on painting but we did do a sculpting project or two.  In college I took several art classes.  I was fortunate to take life size portrait sculpting class in Terra cotta clay and a stone sculpting class with Ralph Bainey a very talented art and teacher.  I love sculpting and over the last few years I have been working hard to achieve a lifelike look in my work and will continue striving to improve with each new piece.  The majority of my work is high contrasting colors especially Black an white as I have a love for the Gothic genre. It is my goal to stretch my artists wings and try to create pices that will appeal to everyone. I sculpt what my eye sees but what my heart does with it before it reaches my hands and the clay is what makes them art.  I am often stunned when my pieces are finished. I find myself saying. I can't believe I made that.  Partly because I am pleased with my handy work and partly because I am so blessed to have the opportunity and time to create like this. My hubby and children support me in my art and I would not have come so far so fast without thier support. Let me create something for you. If you can dream it. I can sculpt it.

Some of my inspiration and skills were inspired and gleaned from the following DVDs and books.

Philippe Faraut DVD's: Volume 1 Portraits and Volume 2 Expressions and Facial Features (my favorite)

Jodi & Richard Creager Videos: Sculpting the Head, Sculpting Hands, Sculpting Feet and Legs and Constructing Armatures

Jack Johnston DVD's Making Artdolls, Artdoll Costumes, Making Doll Heads, Sculpting and Costuming Santa Claus

Wendy Froud DVD Creating a Faery Figure (I Highly recommend this one)

Secrist - Baby Sculpting and reborning DVDs.

Kori Butts - Online class - How to sculpt a child doll in polymer clay.

These books were very helpful while I was learning:

Edward Lanteri "Modelling and Sculpting the Human Figure" Great techniques

Philippe Faraut "Portrait Sculpting" He is so amazingly talented

Maureen Carlson "How to make clay character" very cute little all clay characters

Katherine Dewey "Creating Life-Like Figurines in Polymer Clay"

Sarah Simblet "Anatomy for the Artist"

Gary Faigin "Facial Expressions"

Plus tons of tutorials from some very talented artists all over the world who are generous enough to post them on their websites and youtube.

I have not been able to actually take any classes or go to any seminars yet but I plan to in the future. The work found on this site is raw and as with my skills still a work in progress. I hope you like what I am doing and will keep coming back to see what my next learning adventure will do for my sculpting skills.

Many of my fairies have this face shape. It is one of my favorite pictures out of the very few pictures of me that I ever allowed to be taken at that age(16). I use it often when sculpting.

If all I was ever able to do for the rest of my life was make art dolls, I would be happy forever. I can think of nothing that makes me happier. Seeing the look on someones face when they see a miniature version of themselves that I created is priceless. I hope I can continue learning and improving and that someday this is all I will have to do. Play with clay all day and create my art dolls.  :)
